POMORIE

Pomorie is a town in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Burgas region. The town is the administrative center of Pomorie municipality.
The modern town of Pomorie is located on the eponymous narrow, rocky peninsula, jutting 3.5 km into the Black Sea, on the northwest coast of Burgas Bay. From the south, east and northeast the city is surrounded by the sea, from the north - by Lake Pomorie, and only from west-northwest, through a narrow isthmus, flooded too often by the sea, connects with the Pomorie field, which is part of the Burgas lowland. Over the millennia, the configuration of the terrain has changed, which is why the village has changed its location. The city is located at equal distances 21.3 km from the regional center of Burgas.
A large water basin near the town is Pomorie Lake - a protected area, which is a super-saline lagoon of natural origin with an area of 760.8 hectares. It is separated from the sea by natural sandy hair, and in its southern part there is an artificial channel connecting it with the sea. Healing mud is extracted in its southern part, and salt in the northern part. In addition, the lake is an important ornithological site. The unique microclimate, typical for the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, determines the extremely favorable soil and climatic conditions for the development of viticulture and winemaking in the region of Pomorie.
Pomorie is located on the Via Pontica migratory road and is a place with a narrow migration front for migrating soaring birds from a significant part of Northern, Eastern and Central Europe.
The city was founded under the name Anhialo at the end of the 5th century BC. Most of its inhabitants were Thracians. From its very foundation until the beginning of the last century, it is one of the most important Black Sea cities in the Bulgarian lands.
