KRANEVO

Kranevo is a village in northeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Balchik municipality, Dobrich district. The old name of the village is Ekrene (until 1934).
The sea cape Kranevo on the island of Tower in Antarctica is named in honor of the village.
The beach of the village is divided into 3 zones: North, Central and South beach. It is 1500 meters long and 40 to 60 meters wide, with very fine sand.
Until 1934 the village was named Ekrene, which comes from the medieval Bulgarian fortress Kranea. And Ekrene is actually the Turkish pronunciation of Kranea. On the road between Kranevo and Golden Sands is the lighthouse Ekrene, which for many years was the highest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Due to the constant landslide activity in the area, the activity of the lighthouse was stopped. Not far from it are the remains of the defensive shaft, which played an important role in the defense of the First Bulgarian State, called Asparuhov shaft. On the huge hill near today's Kranevo, the Ekren Fortress (fortress) was once located.
At this place during the Romanian occupation of Southern Dobruja (1913 - 1940) passed the border with the Kingdom of Romania.
